Vocational Education and Training (VET) makes learners ready for careers on the basis of various manual or practical activities, older non-academic activities as well as those that depends on a particular trade, occupation or vocation. It is also known as technical education at times, because of the fact that the learner directly gains expertise for a specific technology. The terms vocation and career can be considered as synonyms Vocational. education concentrates on theory as well as nebulous conceptual knowledge, characteristic or even tertiary education

The level of vocational education is either secondary or post-secondary level. Up to the period of 20th century, vocational education focused on specific trades such as an automobile mechanic or welder. Therefore, it depended on the activities of lower social classes. Hence, it was related with something like stigma and vocational education got related to the older method of gaining knowledge. As the popularity of labor market grew and economies initiated to perform higher levels of skill, the governments and businesses started investing higher amount in the field of vocational education. This job is carried over via various training organizations that are provided funds publicly and economically supported in busines.

Vocational education got popular in the year 20th century. It is currently present in various industries including retail, tourism, IT, funeral services and cosmetics, and many traditional crafts and cottage industries. In India, vocational training is delivered on a full time as well as part time basis. Full time programs are often provided by I.T.I.s i.e industrial training institutes.

On the other hand, the part time programs are provided by various technical education boards at state level or universities also delivering full-time courses. In India, vocational training is famous in various industrial training institutes specifically in engineering trades. Apart from this, these courses are also provided by many private institutes and many of these are even not government recognized.
