Value Oriented Education

The first principle of teaching states that there is nothing that can be taught. When this statement is examined deeply,we gives an idea concerning the technique of teaching. It does not constrain teaching, since it was the first fundamental to teaching. According to it, the ways to teach should be such that the person is able to gain knowledge out of it and aids in its development. Teacher should play a helping and guiding role rather than as an instructor. Or in other words,it means that teacher should not enforce his instructions over the learner, but he should be able to aspire the learner to learn find the reality with his own efforts.

The Socrates describes the way a teacher can become good merely by asking questions rather than teaching and delivers true knowledge to an individual which is already there in the learner. The Socrates and Plato differed on the basis of opinion as well as knowledge. According to them, although opinions can be developed in relation to various experiences and knowledge containing pure ideas is not dependent on sense-experience and could be achieved by certain type of experience which is related to remembrance. According to Socrates and Plato, a process of uncovering helps in remembering knowledge.

Knowledge is very advantageous as according to Socrates and Plato. In fact virtue is knowledge according to them. The thing that is true for knowledge is also true for virtue. As knowledge can only be uncovered but cant be taught, similar is the case with virtue. It can also only be uncovered. But it does not mean that teacher do not play any role. But teacher should be aware of the fact the learner has a potential in him and that his main goal is to uncover whatever is hidden inside the learner. An opposite view is is given by behaviorists, who thinks that the learner does not possess any hidden potentials except some reflex responses are present. According to them, learners can be taught anything with certain processes of conditioning which can be developed as per their needs and goals.
