The word 'arts' is defined as a major subdivision of culture, consisting of various expressive disciplines. It is a wider term as compared to "art". 'Art' basically refers to the description of a field usually called as the visual arts The arts includes the visual arts, literature, the performing arts, such as music, drama, film, dance, related media, and by few definitions, other areas like fashion. All these are included under the field if major arts. Another way of defining arts is as a process of arrangement of elements in a manner according to our emotions.
A wide range of human activities, creations, as well as methods of expression such as music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings are involved in arts . The description of art is done in a branch of philosophy called aesthetics. The art definition and evaluation has caused a problem since the 20th century. Three main approaches have been differentiated by Richard Wollheim. These are as follows:
- The Realist: The aesthetic quality is an absolute value in this case without considering any human view.
- The Objectivist: It is also an absolute value, the difference being that it depends on general view of human beings.
- The Relativist: It is not an absolute value, but it depends upon, and varies in accordance with the experience of different humans.
An object may have features like the intentions, or lack thereof, of its creator, irrespective of its use. A cup that can be used as a container, may be called as an art if used only as an ornament, while a painting may be considered as a craft if it is produced massively.
Earlier the term art was used to denote any skill or mastery. But this definition changed during the romantic period during which art was considered as "A special faculty of the human brain that could be divided according to the religion and science".
canvas art The creation of floral garden and still life fine art oil paintings and pastels presented in The Zucco Fine Art Gallery by floral artists Jennifer Ann Zucco and Kitty Zucco have long provided a source of deep pleasure and challenge for these two gifted artists.
